ABOUT THE COURTS VOLLEYBALL CLUB
The Courts Volleyball Club was created in 2006 by Ron Hoffman, Director of The Courts Volleyball Training Facility. The primary purpose of The Courts VBC is to offer quality fundamental training to beginning players and players with limited experience, but who are interested in developing the skills and confidence needed to successfully participate in competitive “club” or their school volleyball teams. The Courts VBC is different than other area “club” volleyball programs, in-that, our focus is not on forming teams to compete in weekend tournaments. Rather, our focus is on fundamental training of individual skills, while also introducing the basics of competitive team play to the following types of athletes:
- The youth-age athlete (ages 7 - 11) who is just beginning to play volleyball and is either too young or not quite prepared to compete for a regular competitive “club” volleyball program;
- The junior-age athlete (ages 12 - 15) who may be new to the sport of volleyball and lack the formal fundamental skills and/or confidence to compete for a regular competitive “club” volleyball program. These players can continue regular club-like training to improve their skills and confidence, with focus and purpose to prepare them for future “club” or school team tryouts. Participants may be offered opportunities to join a regular “club” program, if an area club is looking to fill a roster spot during the club season.
- Youth and junior-age (ages 10 - 15) who have tried out for competitive “club” team, but did not make a team. These players now have a home and can continue regular club-like training to improve their skills and confidence, with focus and purpose to prepare them for future “club” or school team tryouts. Participants may be offered opportunities to join a regular “club” program, if a club is looking to fill a roster spot.
The Courts VBC Training Philosophy
The Courts VBC training is designed to go beyond teaching just “ball” skills. Players will also be trained on mentally processing the seeing, thinking, decision-making and movement dynamics ("on-ball" and "off-ball") associated with playing “Team System Volleyball”.
The approach to volleyball training that most players have likely experienced up to now, has come from a "BALL CONTACT" perspective. Understanding that NINETY percent of game time is spent in behavior/activity/action that does not require contact with the ball, The Courts VBC places equal emphasis in training NON-contact, or OFF-ball aspects, dynamics and responsibilities of the game of Volleyball. Positioning / Posturing, Repositioning / Re-posturing, Tracking and Assessing the ball, Anticipating and Adjusting, Decision making, Communicating, Switching, Releasing, Approaching, Transitioning, Jumping, Landing, Covering, Pursuing, (SEEING, THINKING, DECIDING, SAYING AND DOING ), in relative effort and action to the ball, the court, the players and the primary objectives.
